An Introduction to Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that is based on the use of aromatic materials, which includes essential oils, fragrances and other aroma compounds, to improve a person's psychological well-being.

One of our foundations for our Apothecary store is the power and healing of Aromatherapy to uplift one's mood and help in the overall healing of a customer's well being. Essential oils and fragrances have been used for therapeutic, spiritual, ritualistic and hygienic purposes for centuries. However, there is no quality, medical evidence that Aromatherapy alone can prevent, treat or cure any diseases.

Aromatherapy can work wonders to enhance and create a serene and calming atmosphere wherever you are. Some examples below is where aromatherapy can bring serenity to your every day:

1.) Aromatherapy Candles: Lightly-scented candles infused with essential oils or a relaxing fragrance are known their relaxing, mood calming properties. Placing candles strategically in and around your home will create a warm and soothing ambiance.

2.) Calming Baths: Adding some of your favorite essential oils to your bath water is a great way to incorporate aromatherapy into your nighttime or morning cleansing ritual. The warmth and steam from the bath water will release whatever essential oil into the atmosphere and into your bath water.

You can also add candles that has your favorite scent to enhance your bathroom. Scents like Cedarwood, Lavender or Ylang Ylang can create a serene environment and helps in the aid of a good night's sleep.

3.) Bedtime Rituals & Room Sprays: Room sprays with a relaxing essential oil and/or fragrance can help enhance a good night sleep and gives a room a calming, relaxing scent. Spritz your bed linens, pillows, or blankets with a home-infused room spray that has your favorite fragrance or essential oils. This will not only add a delightful scent to the room, but it will also help with winding down your body & thoughts before bed. Sage, Cedarwood & Lavender are a few scents that help with a restful sleep and gives your room a nice, warm fragrance.

Remember, the key to successful aromatherapy is having a pure, high quality fragrance or essential oil and following proper safety guidelines when in use. Different scents will always resonate differently with individuals so feel free to experiment and explore different oils and fragrances to find the combination that work best for you in creating your best calming atmosphere.
